Ever wondered why you are still so thin after consuming large amounts of food daily? The one and only easy answer is of course due to our metabolism rate.

Metabolism is the set of chemical reactions that occur in living organisms in order to maintain life. These processes allow organisms to grow and reproduce, maintain their structures, and respond to their environments.

Metabolism is usually divided into two categories. Catabolism breaks down large molecules, for example to harvest energy in cellular respiration. Anabolism, on the other hand, uses energy to construct components of cells such as proteins and nucleic acids.

People with high metabolism rate tend to have a high speed of digestion in the alimentary canal, thus, reducing the time for the fats to develop. This is vice-versa for people who have slighly slower metabolism rate. Metabolism rates are mostly due to the genetic hereditary from parents to their children.
